On Monday, May 20th at 3:30pm, Freetown communications center received reports of a garage fire at 47 Mason Rd. A full department response was dispatched. Car 1 arrived on scene and reported a working fire fire in a wood frame garage. The working fire assignment brought Lakeville and Rochester in to the scene and Dartmouth Dist 3 to headquarters for coverage. Providence Canteen was called for rehab.
Car 1 also requested Freetown Police to close Mason Rd due to the supply line crossing it.
Engine 2 was assigned to fire attack and laid a 400’ supply line into the scene from a nearby hydrant. Engine 3 was water supply. Crews made a quick knockdown of the bulk of the fire with handlines.
Ladder 2 was positioned to the roof where Lakeville crews performed ventilation. There was extensive overhaul to reveal hidden hotspots. Rochester crews assisted with this labor intensive task.
There were no injuries and multiple vehicles along with tools and equipment were salvaged with minimal damage. Thanks to our mutual aid partners and Freetown Fire crews for all the strong work.
